Rocco's is a popular and much beloved pizzeria/Italian restaurant on Pottstown Pike (Rt. 100) in Exton. We went there for a sit-down dinner that included pizza, fries, a cheesesteak, and a hoagie (three hungry people). The place had the typical ambiance of these ubiquitous places, but it was clean and modern.
Service was good and the place was full of happy hungry people. But at the end, I was puzzled by the popularity of Rocco's. The hoagie was good. The cheesesteak was good. Neither was great or distinctive in any way -- just the same sangawitch you can get in a thousand places. The pizza? Completely ordinary, again failing due to the soft and doughy crust that lacked character.
Rocco's pie is a true mezza-mezz: 5 out of 10 stars.

Eh, I hoped you were a truly good pizza reviewer, but no can be if you don't think Rocco's is the best around pizza establishment. I'm from Brooklyn and it doesn't get any better than this.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteAs I noted, Rocco's is a popular place. Even ordinary pizza is pretty tasty -- and that is what Rocco's has. Judging by the taste and texture, they are using the same mass-produced and distributed commercial pizza ingredients as every other storefront pizzaria. Great pizza starts with a great crust, and you can't do that using Sysco ingredients.
